Retail Sales Survey August 2019​​​: Positive Retail Sales Growth Maintained - Bank Sentral Republik Indonesia

The latest Retail Sales Survey revealed retail sales growth in August 2019 are moderating, as reflected by Real Sales Index (RSI) expansion of 1.1% (yoy), decelerating from 2.4% (yoy) in July 2019. Retail sales growth was led by Spare Parts and Accessories, Other Household Equipment, including electronics other than audio/video as well as homeware.

Retailers predicted sales to pick up in September 2019, as indicated by an increase in RSI growth to 2.1% (yoy). The gains were led by Other Household Equipment; Food, Beverages and Tobacco; as well as Spare Parts and Accessories.

Furthermore, the Retail Sales Survey pointed to milder inflationary pressures at the retail level in the next six months (February 2020), as confirmed by a decline in the 6-month Price Expectations Index (PEI) to 168.2 from a level of 174.7 the month earlier.
