Trade Surplus Increased in August 2026

Siaran Pers
Press Releases

No. 28/208/DKom

Based on data released by BPS-Statistics Indonesia, Indonesia recorded a trade surplus totalling USD3.55 billion in August 2026, increasing from a USD0.12 billion surplus in July 2026. Bank Indonesia views the wider trade surplus as positive in terms of further supporting external economic resilience in Indonesia. Moving forward, Bank Indonesia will continue strengthening policy synergy with the Government and other relevant authorities to further strengthen external resilience and support sustainable national economic growth.

The trade surplus in August 2026 stemmed from a wider non-oil and gas trade surplus and a narrower oil and gas trade deficit. The non-oil and gas trade balance recorded a USD6.09 billion surplus in August 2026, up from a USD3.10 billion surplus in the previous period, in line with higher non-oil and gas exports and lower non-oil and gas imports. Non-oil and gas exports increased to USD25.62 billion, primarily boosted by exports of natural resource-based commodities, such as nickel and articles thereof, fixed animal or vegetable fats and oils, as well as precious metals and jewellery/gems, together with manufacturing products, including various chemical products. Based on destination country, non-oil and gas exports to China, the United States and India remained the main contributors to exports from Indonesia. Meanwhile, the oil and gas trade deficit narrowed to USD2.54 billion in August 2026 from USD2.98 billion in the previous period in line with lower oil and gas imports and higher oil and gas exports. Consequently, Indonesia's trade balance for the January-August 2026 period recorded a USD7.25 billion surplus.
