The modest fashion industry is creating greater economic opportunities by transforming Indonesia's traditional textiles into fashion products with global competitiveness. According to the State of the Global Islamic Economy (SGIE) Report 2025/2026, Indonesia ranks first globally in the modest fashion sector. Indonesia's leading position is supported by the diversity of cultural heritage reflected in its products, a supportive regulatory framework, government facilitation for businesses, international-scale modest fashion promotion programs, and the strong presence of Indonesian businesses at international fashion events. This achievement underscores the strategic role of Indonesia's modest fashion industry in expanding market access for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), creating employment opportunities for local artisans and designers, and increasing exports of Indonesian creative products.
This was conveyed by Bank Indonesia Senior Deputy Governor Aida S. Budiman at the opening of the 2026 Indonesia International Modest Fashion Festival (IN2MOTIONFEST) at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC) on Wednesday (14 October). The opening ceremony was also attended by Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya, Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, Head of Statistics Indonesia Amalia Adininggar, and Indonesian modest fashion industry stakeholders.
Held under the theme “Indonesia's Integrated Modest Fashion Ecosystem: Transforming Modest Fashion Brands into Global Business," IN2MOTIONFEST enters its fifth edition and, for the first time, collaborates with Jakarta Muslim Fashion Week (JMFW). This collaboration between Bank Indonesia and the Ministry of Trade integrates business capacity development with expanded market access, enabling the creativity and rich heritage of Indonesian traditional textiles to be transformed into higher value-added products that can compete in global markets.
Aida emphasized that an integrated modest fashion ecosystem, spanning the entire value chain from upstream to downstream, is key to maximizing global market opportunities. “Through IN2MOTIONFEST, we aim to connect businesses with markets and potential buyers, so that promotional opportunities can translate into actual transactions and sustainable trade partnerships," said Aida.
Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya echoed this view, noting that the development of modest fashion offers Indonesian creative products opportunities to reach broader markets, not only in Muslim-majority countries but also in Europe and other international markets. Indonesia's cultural richness and distinctive designs provide a strong foundation for creating products that appeal to global consumers. Therefore, strengthening the creative industry must go hand in hand with efforts to develop and protect intellectual property, enabling Indonesian creations to generate economic value and compete in global markets.
In line with this, Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana stated that Indonesia's rich textile heritage and fashion creativity could enhance the country's appeal as a shopping tourism destination. Fashion shows, exhibitions, and other activities at IN2MOTIONFEST x JMFW 2026 are expected to create business partnership opportunities while attracting more tourists. These efforts also provide an opportunity to introduce Indonesian traditional textiles and modest fashion creations to the world, while offering visitors greater value through shopping and tourism experiences.
Since 2018, Bank Indonesia, in collaboration with the Indonesian Fashion Chamber (IFC) and relevant ministries and institutions, has consistently supported business development through curation, training, and mentoring under the IKRA Brand Leveling System program. This support includes developing traditional textile artisans' capabilities and improving product quality. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Trade facilitates broader market connectivity through trade promotion, business matching, and networks of domestic and international buyers. These synergies must be complemented by business readiness to maintain product quality, increase production capacity, establish appropriate pricing strategies, and strengthen business management to compete in global markets.
By integrating business capacity development with expanded market access, IN2MOTIONFEST x JMFW 2026 is expected to create broader business opportunities for MSMEs, increase the value added of Indonesian traditional textiles, and strengthen the global competitiveness of Indonesia's modest fashion industry.
The public is invited to visit the Indonesia Sharia Economic Festival (ISEF) 2026, taking place on 14–18 October 2026 at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC), Jakarta. Together, let us strengthen Indonesia's modest fashion ecosystem, showcase the richness of our traditional textiles, and bring Indonesian creations to the global stage.
