According to the latest Retail Sales Survey, respondents expect retail sales in September 2026 to increase annually. This is reflected by the Real Sales Index (RSI), which is predicted to grow by 1.4% (yoy) in September 2026, accelerating from 1.3% (yoy) in the previous period, to reach a level of 221.3. The increase in sales is driven by Other Goods, Other Household Equipment, as well as Cultural and Recreational Goods. On a monthly basis, retailers predict sales to contract by 2.3% (mtm) in September 2026, mainly impacted by lower sales of Food, Beverages and Tobacco.
The RSI grew by 1.3% (yoy) in August 2026, improving from 1.1% (yoy) growth recorded in July 2026. This was boosted by stronger annual sales of Food, Beverages and Tobacco as well as Spare Parts and Accessories. On a monthly basis, retail sales grew by 0.8% (mtm) in August 2026, following a 0.1% (mtm) contraction in July 2026, in line with maintained demand during the Indonesia Independence Day period.
In terms of prices, respondents predict higher inflationary pressures in November 2026 and February 2027. This is reflected by the Price Expectations Index (PEI) in November 2026 and February 2027, which stood at 149.9 and 177.9, respectively, up from 146.5 and 166.0 in the previous periods.
