No.28/218/DKom

Indonesia continues to advance its vision of becoming a global hub for the Islamic economy and finance through the development of the halal industry ecosystem, deeper Islamic financial markets, and enhanced synergy and digital transformation. The Indonesia Sharia Economic Festival (ISEF) 2026 represents a concrete effort by Islamic economy and finance stakeholders to strengthen the halal value chain ecosystem, deepen Islamic financial markets, optimise Islamic social finance, and expand financial inclusion through digital transformation. The event embraces the spirit of “Goodness for All" in developing an inclusive and globally competitive Islamic economy and finance sector. This was highlighted at the opening of the 13th ISEF on 14 October 2026 in Jakarta, officiated by Bank Indonesia Governor Destry Damayanti and Deputy Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Dradjad Hari Wibowo. Also in attendance were leaders and members of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation Chairman Anggito Abimanyu, Financial Services Authority (OJK) Board of Commissioners members Agusman and Dicky Kartikoyono, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) Head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, Indonesian Waqf Board Chairman Kamaruddin Amin, and Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH) Executive Board Head Fadlul Imansyah.

Under the theme “Accelerating Sustainable Islamic Economic and Financial Growth through Synergy and Digital Transformation", ISEF 2026 brings together ministries and government agencies, regional governments, and strategic partners. The event is also supported by national and international partners, including the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB), the International Islamic Liquidity Management Corporation (IILM), the Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH), the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), the National Zakat Agency (BAZNAS), the Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI), and the Indonesian Sharia Banking Association (ASBISINDO), alongside other strategic partners from regulatory authorities, industry, and academia. This collaboration embodies the spirit of “Goodness for All" in building an inclusive and globally competitive Islamic economy and finance sector.

At ISEF 2026, Bank Indonesia launched three flagship programmes to strengthen Islamic financial markets, improve zakat governance, and develop human resources. First, the Islamic Financial Market Code of Conduct (ICoC), a code of conduct for Islamic financial market transactions developed by the Indonesian Money Market and Foreign Exchange Market Association (APUVINDO) and IIGMA in collaboration with Bank Indonesia and the Financial Services Authority (OJK), to enhance market integrity and efficiency. Second, the updated Zakat Core Principles (ZCP) index, developed by BAZNAS and Bank Indonesia with the addition of a risk management dimension to strengthen zakat governance. Third, an international scholarship programme to support the education of international students through Islamic social funds, while developing high-quality human resources, promoting the productive use of Islamic social finance instruments (ZISWAF), and raising awareness of the Islamic economy. These flagship programmes reinforce Bank Indonesia's support for Indonesia's vision of becoming a global hub for the Islamic economy and finance, in line with the Asta Cita national priorities and the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN).

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, in remarks delivered by Deputy Coordinating Minister Dradjad Hari Wibowo, stated that the Islamic economy offers significant potential to become a new source of economic growth and enhance Indonesia's competitiveness. This potential is underpinned by projected global Muslim consumer spending of USD3.56 trillion by 2029. To capitalise on this opportunity, the Government is promoting the development of the halal industry and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), expanding exports and international cooperation, and advancing Islamic finance and social finance. These efforts also aim to broaden MSMEs' access to financing and improve Islamic financial literacy and inclusion, enabling the Islamic economy to deliver broader benefits to society.

Indonesia's global competitiveness in the Islamic economy continues to strengthen. In the State of the Global Islamic Economy (SGIE) Report 2025/2026, Indonesia maintained its fourth-place global ranking. Domestically, the halal value chain grew by 5.5% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, outpacing national economic growth. Meanwhile, Indonesia's sovereign green sukuk issuances since 2018 have reached USD7.7 billion in international markets and IDR108.9 trillion in the domestic market as of June 2026. “These achievements provide a foundation, not a finishing line. Significant opportunities remain to increase the market share of Islamic finance, deepen financial markets, and expand financial literacy. Accelerating progress therefore requires stronger synergy and digital transformation," said Destry.

ISEF 2026

The 13th ISEF takes place on 14–18 October 2026 at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC). The event brings together domestic and international Islamic economy and finance partners and more than 1,000 halal industry participants. ISEF 2026 features more than 100 onsite and online activities, connecting businesses across the value chain. These include trade and traditional textile (wastra) business matching, the Islamic Boarding School Business Forum, and national and international forums covering halal industries, zakat, waqf, hajj financing, and Muslim-friendly tourism.

To broaden its reach and impact, ISEF 2026 introduces three key innovations: collaboration with Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) 2026, the use of immersive digital technology, and greater participation across generations and countries. One initiative aimed at engaging younger audiences is the Creative Islamic Economy Video Competition (VITRAH) and ISEF World Island on the Roblox platform, introducing the Islamic economy and finance through a digital environment familiar to young people.

The road to ISEF began in June and continued through September 2026 with the Sharia Economic and Financial Festivals (FESyar) held in three regions: South Sumatra, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Java.

The public can visit ISEF 2026 at JICC or access further information at www.isef.co.id and through the ISEFun app at https://apps.isef.co.id. Together, let us make ISEF a driving force in developing Indonesia's halal industry ecosystem and advancing the country's vision of becoming a global hub for the Islamic economy and finance.
