Bank Indonesia has provided 32.5 tons of humanitarian assistance for victims and communities affected by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), including communities on Palue Island, as well as in Sikka, Ende and Nagekeo regencies. The aid was transported by air in synergy with the Natural Disaster Management Board (BNPB) and the Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU). Distribution was conducted in three stages, with the third consignment handed over and dispatched from the Bank Indonesia Museum today, Monday, 31st August 2026.
The assistance was granted symbolically on behalf of the Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, Ricky Perdana Gozali, by the Head of the Bank Indonesia Communication Department, Ramdan Denny Prakoso, to the NTT Provincial Government, represented by the Head of the NTT Provincial Liaison Agency in Jakarta, Florida Taty Setyawati. The ceremony was witnessed by BNPB Deputy for Systems and Strategy and Deputy Coordinator of the National Logistics Support Post at Halim Perdanakusumah, Dr Raditya Jati, as well as Principal Assistant Officer (Paban) IV for Social Communications, Air Force Territorial Staff, Colonel Deni Ramdani.
The third shipment of assistance dispatched today totalled 14.3 tons, including tents, camping beds, generators, additional medicines and ready-to-eat meals. Aid has been distributed progressively in line with the evolving needs during each phase of the emergency response. The first stage, totalling 8.5 tons, was dispatched on 24th August 2026 and focused on urgent post-disaster requirements, including medicines, mineral water, ready-to-eat meals and hygiene products. The second stage, weighing 9.7 tons, was dispatched on 27th August 2026 and included staple foods and mineral water.
Bank Indonesia's support will not end with the emergency response phase. Moving forward, Bank Indonesia will continue providing support through post-disaster recovery and community empowerment programs. This sustained support is in accordance with the Financial Sector Development and Strengthening Act (P2SK Act), which mandates Bank Indonesia with providing education as well as environmental and community empowerment programs in support of its duties. These measures are expected to contribute to sustainable economic growth and create an environment conducive to job creation, including in disaster-affected areas.
In terms of rupiah availability, Bank Indonesia, through its East Nusa Tenggara Provincial Representative Office, is ensuring that banking liquidity requirements in affected areas continue to be met optimally, including through the optimisation of cash custodian services at banks. Bank Indonesia is also working in synergy with the Indonesian Navy through the Sovereign Rupiah Expedition (ERB) program to provide fit-for-circulation rupiah currency in difficult-to-access areas, namely Kupang, Riung Island, Palue Island, Pamana Island, Waiwerang Island and Lamalera Island.
Mitigating the risk of post-disaster inflationary pressures, Bank Indonesia continues to coordinate intensively with local governments. Inflation control strategies are focused on maintaining the resilience of strategic food commodity supplies and price stability in accordance with developments on the ground.
Bank Indonesia also took the opportunity to express its appreciation to the Natural Disaster Management Board (BNPB), Indonesian Air Force, NTT Provincial Government and all logistics partners working together in the field. It is hoped that the prevailing spirit of togetherness, mutual cooperation and synergy can continue to support communities in NTT in recovering quickly from the disaster.
