Trade Surplus Maintained

No. 28/239/DKom

Based on data released by BPS-Statistics Indonesia, Indonesia recorded a trade surplus totalling USD3.36 billion in September 2026, continuing the USD3.55 billion surplus recorded in August 2026. Bank Indonesia views the maintained trade surplus as positive in terms of further supporting external economic resilience in Indonesia. Moving forward, Bank Indonesia will continue strengthening policy synergy with the Government and other relevant authorities to further bolster external resilience and support sustainable national economic growth.

The trade surplus in September 2026 stemmed from a sustained non-oil and gas trade surplus, coupled with a narrower oil and gas trade deficit. The non-oil and gas trade balance recorded a USD5.67 billion surplus in September 2026, supported by an increase in non-oil and gas exports to USD26.64 billion from USD25.62 billion in the previous period. Positive non-oil and gas export performance was primarily boosted by exports of natural resource-based commodities, such as fixed animal or vegetable fats and oils as well as precious metals and jewellery/gems, together with manufacturing products, including electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof, as well as iron and steel. Based on destination country, non-oil and gas exports to China, the United States and India remained the main contributors to exports from Indonesia. Meanwhile, the oil and gas trade deficit narrowed to USD2.32 billion in September 2026 from USD2.54 billion in the previous month, as the decline in oil and gas imports exceeded the corresponding decrease in oil and gas exports. Consequently, Indonesia's trade balance for the January-September 2026 period recorded a USD10.61 billion surplus.
