The Rupiah serves not only as a means of payment but also as a strategic instrument that drives the economy, promotes prosperity and safeguards the unity and sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia. Bank Indonesia, therefore, is committed to maintaining the quality, confidence in and availability of the Rupiah throughout the Indonesian archipelago amid rapid developments in digital payments. That was the key takeaway from the Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, Ricky P. Gozali, during his opening remarks at the Indonesia Sovereign Rupiah Festival (FERBI) 2026 on 14th August, held at Istora Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan, Jakarta, from 14-16th August 2026.
“Every Rupiah banknote and coin in circulation symbolises the unity and sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia. Beyond its function as cash, the Rupiah also upholds its sovereignty as the unit of value within the digital payment ecosystem," emphasised Deputy Governor Ricky. He also encouraged the public to use the momentum of Independence Day to strengthen their commitment to Love, Pride and Understanding of the Rupiah. “Love the Rupiah" by caring for and protecting the Rupiah, “Pride in the Rupiah" by using it in every transaction as an expression of national sovereignty, and “Understanding the Rupiah" by recognising its role in the economy and using it wisely to support the Indonesian economy .
The Indonesia Sovereign Rupiah Festival (FERBI) is an annual event that provides a platform for strategic collaboration in Rupiah currency management. Now in its fifth year, FERBI involves the participation of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), Indonesian National Police (Polri), Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK), Ministry of Transportation, Coordinating Agency for the Eradication of Counterfeit Rupiah (BOTASUPAL), the banking industry and associations. Deputy Governor Ricky took the opportunity to express appreciation to partners for supporting the shredded banknote waste management program, which received the Best New Environmental Project award at the International Association of Currency Affairs (IACA) Awards 2026. Through the program, Bank Indonesia collaborates with industries requiring additional energy supply as well as MSMEs capable of recycling banknote waste into products with economic value.
At the same event, Bank Indonesia paid tribute to the families of national heroes immortalised on Rupiah currency designs and expressed appreciation for the contributions of prominent national figures. The tribute was received by representatives of the heroes' families, namely Prof. Dr. Meutia Hatta, Noorwati Djuanda, Radian Ratulangie Sugandi, Anastasia Dian Kaisiepo, S.H., Ety Sulastri and Diennaryati Tjokro.
Through FERBI 2026, Bank Indonesia encourages the public to continue safeguarding the Rupiah as a means of payment and a symbol of national sovereignty, identity and unity.
