“The younger generation is the main driver of sharia economic transformation, which must be strengthened with an entrepreneurial spirit that is not only competitive but also grounded in ethical values, honesty, justice and sharia principles that nurture business continuity and sustainability. This is the generation that will make the Indonesian economy more resilient, inclusive and competitive globally." That was highlighted by Bank Indonesia Senior Deputy Governor, Destry Damayanti, at the Youth Sharia Entrepreneurship Forum (YSEF) 2025, entitled Driving an Inclusive and Sustainable Economy through Youth-led Entrepreneurship at the Jakarta International Expo (JIEXPO) Convention Centre (11/10/25).
Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti urged the younger generation to create and develop various business models using their innovation and digital capabilities. As a concrete measure, BI will launch the Creative Youthpreneurs Industrial Innovation Support Program to strengthen the Muslimpreneur ecosystem. This is expected to nurture the creation of business models for the sharia economy that are not only financially profitable yet also beneficial for the entire community (inclusive), sustainable and competitive globally. In addition, Bank Indonesia will strengthen synergy between government agencies, businesses and academics to support youth-led entrepreneurship, thereby optimising the vast growth potential of the global halal economy.
Secretary General of the Central Executive Board of the Indonesia Young Sharia Entrepreneurs Association (BPP HIPMI Syariah), Anggawira, expressed his appreciation for the collaboration between BI and HIPMI Syariah to advance the development of the sharia economy. Moving forward, Anggawira expects collaboration in the halal industry to be expanded to the agricultural and food sectors with large potential for development. Anggawira also added that a number of development challenges must be anticipated, which include managing public trust. “In response, real action is needed through synergy among various parties to grow the sharia economy as a conduit to achieve economic equality and prosperity in Indonesia," added Anggawira.
The Youth Sharia Entrepreneurship Forum (YSEF) is a space for inspiration, education and collaboration among youthpreneurs to develop their sharia business capabilities. Through a series of seminars, inspirational talks, breakout sessions and the Youth Shariapreneur Innovation Competition (YSIC), the YSEF forum has three main benefits. First, improving Shariapreneur literacy and skills, including digital marketing, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and sustainable financial management. Second, expanding access to networks and collaboration with mentors, investors and national halal industry players. And third, supporting youth-led creative industry innovation through the launch of the HIPMI Syariah Blueprint and YSIC kick-off ceremony, which brings together youthpreneurs with sharia business financing and coaching. Initiatives such as the YSIC competition are also expected to expand the halal value chain (HVC) in the halal food, modest Muslim fashion, Muslim-friendly tourism and Islamic social finance sectors, in line with Indonesia's vision of becoming a global hub of the sharia economy.
The Youth Sharia Entrepreneurship Forum (YSEF) was held through close collaboration between Bank Indonesia, the National Islamic Economy and Finance Committee (KNEKS), Indonesia Young Sharia Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI Syariah), and Forum Silaturahmi Studi Ekonomi Islam (Islamic Economic Studies Forum - FoSSEI), supported by the Indonesia Business Incubator Association (AIBI), government ministries/agencies and national halal industry players. As part of the Indonesia Shari'a Economic Festival (ISEF) 2025, the YSEF forum serves as a platform for more than 1,800 young people and youthpreneurs to strengthen the role of sharia-based entrepreneurship in pursuit of an inclusive and sustainable national economy.
