According to the latest Retail Sales Survey, retailers expect sales to accelerate in September 2025 on an annual basis. This was reflected by 5.8% (yoy) growth of the Real Sales Index (RSI) in September 2025, up from 3.5% (yoy) the month earlier. The main contributors to faster retail sales growth in the reporting period were Food, Beverages and Tobacco, Other Household Equipment as well as Cultural and Recreational Goods. On a monthly basis, respondents predict a 0.3% (mtm) retail sales contraction in September 2025, primarily impacted by declining retail sales of Clothing.
In August 2025, annual RSI growth was recorded at 3.5% (yoy). Growth was mainly supported by increasing retail sales of clothing. On a monthly basis, retail sales in August 2025 recorded 0.6% (mtm) growth, following a 4.1% (mtm) contraction in July 2025, in line with maintained demand during the period to commemorate Indonesia's Independence Day.
In terms of prices, respondents predict stable inflationary pressures in the next 3 and 6 months, namely in November 2025 and February 2026. This was reflected by a relatively stable Price Expectations Index (PEI) in November 2025 and February 2026 of 134.6 and 169.2 compared with 134.8 and 169.3 previously.
