No. 27/42/DKom

Bank Indonesia Deputy Governor, Doni P. Joewono, and Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army, General Maruli Simanjuntak, symbolically inaugurated the United Water Program (Program Manunggal Air) on 24th February 2025 in Mojokerto, East Java. The collaborative program between the Indonesian Army and Bank Indonesia aims to develop pumped water wells at 123 points distributed throughout the provinces of Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Yogyakarta, North Sumatra, East Nusa Tenggara and South Papua. The collaborative effort will provide the benefits of clean water directly to 18,391 families, or approximately 37,085 people.

The United Water Program is an integral part of the Bank Indonesia Social Program (PSBI), which focuses on environmental aspects, particularly the supply of clean water. The initiative also supports government programs, specifically Asta Cita 2 “to strengthen national security and defence, while bolstering national independence through self-sufficiency in food, energy and water, as well as the creative economy, green economy and blue economy."

“We acknowledge three major strengths of this flagship program with the Indonesian Army. First, the benefits of this initiative will be felt directly by the community. The program not only fulfils one of the community's primary needs, namely water, but also the availability of clean water creates broad opportunities for economic development, particularly in the agricultural and MSME sectors. Second, the program aligns closely with the vision of Indonesia's President, namely Asta Cita 2. Third, as key elements of the nation, the Indonesian Army and Bank Indonesia can serve as exemplary role models for how dissimilar tasks and functions should not undermine the spirit of synergy in the national interest," explained Deputy Governor Doni.

General Maruli expressed his upmost appreciation to Bank Indonesia for its support and cooperation, emphasising that the Indonesian Army is ready to support government programs that aim to ameliorate public prosperity. “Access to water has a massive impact on life and there are currently an estimated 27 million Indonesians without access to clean water. Since its inception, the United Water Program has provided access to water for 1.2 million Indonesians by bringing water sources closer to the community, but not yet into their homes. Moving forward, as more Indonesians gain access to clean water, we are optimistic that Indonesia will continue to grow," stated General Maruli.

Bank Indonesia and the Indonesian Army have built strong synergy in the provision of clean water for the community and agricultural sector in areas in need. Through the United Water Program, Bank Indonesia and the Indonesian Army have developed clean water infrastructure, including the installation of hydraulic pumps, drilled wells, gravity systems and pipe networks in areas with limited access to clean water. Areas with high agricultural potential and water constraints have been prioritised. Through this program, the availability of clean water is not only useful for local communities but can also help maintain agricultural production and, ultimately, maintain stable inflation. Such synergy between Bank Indonesia and the Indonesian Army is expected to improve public prosperity and maintain national food security.
