According to the latest Retail Sales Survey, retailers expect sales to increase in June 2025. Real Sales Index (RSI) growth in June 2025 is predicted to accelerate to 2.0% (yoy), thus reaching a level of 233.7. The main contributors to increasing sales performance in the reporting period are Automotive Fuel, Spare Parts and Accessories, as well as Clothing. On a monthly basis, respondents predict 0.5% (mtm) retail sales growth in June 2025, driven by most commodity groups, particularly Information and Communication Equipment, Automotive Fuel, as well as Cultural and Recreational Goods, in line with seasonal factors, including the school holidays, Eid-ul-Adha national religious holiday, and mid-season sales.

In May 2025, RSI index growth accelerated to 1.9% (yoy), following a 0.3% (yoy) contraction one month earlier, to reach a level of 232.4. RSI growth in May 2025 was primarily supported by Food, Beverages and Tobacco as well as Cultural and Recreational Goods. On a monthly basis, retail sales improved to record a shallower 1.3% (mtm) contraction after declining by 5.1% (mtm) the month earlier in line with maintained demand during the collective leave days commemorating Vesak and the Ascension of Jesus Christ.

In terms of prices, respondents predict milder inflationary pressures in the next 3 months, namely in August 2025, before intensifying in November 2025 (the next 6 months). This was reflected by a decrease in the Price Expectations Index (PEI) in August 2025 to 139.6 from 141.9 in the previous period and an increase in the PEI in November 2025 to 151.3 from 144.5.
