The latest Prompt Manufacturing Index - Bank Indonesia (PMI-BI) reading taken in the third quarter of 2026 indicates increasing manufacturing industry performance, remaining in an expansionary phase (index > 50%) at 52.28%, up from 51.43% in the previous period. Several PMI-BI components increased and remained in expansionary territory, namely Inventory Volume, Production Volume and Order Volume. By manufacturing subsector, most subsectors also remained in an expansionary phase, with the highest index recorded in the Other Non-Metallic Mineral Products Industry, followed by the Food and Beverages Industry, Basic Metals Industry, Rubber, Rubber Products and Plastics Product Industry, as well as the Textile and Wearing Apparel Industry. The latest developments were consistent with the results of the Bank Indonesia Business Survey, which indicated stronger manufacturing activity with a Weighted Net Balance (WNB) of 1.53%.
In the fourth quarter of 2026, respondents expect manufacturing industry performance to increase, as reflected by a PMI-BI of 52.37%. Respondents anticipate Production Volume, Inventory Volume and Order Volume to remain in expansionary territory. Furthermore, most manufacturing subsectors are expected to remain in an expansionary phase, with the highest index predicted for the Leather and Related Products and Footwear Industry, followed by the Other Non-Metallic Mineral Products Industry as well as the Food and Beverages Industry.
