Bank Indonesia has again been awarded as Best Central Bank of the Year at the 14th Global Islamic Finance Award (GIFA) 2024 hosted in the Maldives (17/09/2024), for the third time after receiving the same award in 2018 and 2022. GIFA is a global award organised by the Edbiz Corporation, an international research institute that recognises individuals, businesses and government agencies for their significant contributions to the advancement of the sharia economy and finance. The awards are presented to institutions/individuals that meet three main criteria. First, pioneering the development of sharia finance ideas, innovations or policies. Second, implementing international scale programs, policies or projects, or fulfilling global standards. And third, developing quality products and services as well as gaining wide recognition.
In response to the recognition and appreciation, the Governor of Bank Indonesia, Perry Warjiyo, stated that this achievement is concrete proof of Bank Indonesia's avowed commitment to encouraging the development of the sharia economy and finance in Indonesia. Synergy with stakeholders is seen as playing a crucial role in the development of various strategic initiatives in the Islamic finance sector, both domestically and globally, to strengthen Indonesia's position as a global hub of the sharia economy.
The Chairman of GIFA, Professor Humayon Dar, noted that Bank Indonesia has made a significant contribution as a catalyst for the development of the international sharia economy and finance. At home, Bank Indonesia also focuses on the development of the sharia economy and finance, particularly in the halal value chain ecosystem, Islamic finance and the implementation of a halal lifestyle. Globally, Bank Indonesia plays a critical role in holding the chairmanship of Islamic cooperation forums, with the Bank Indonesia Governor serving as Chairman of the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) Executive Committee and Chairman of the International Islamic Liquidity Management Corporation (IILM) Governing Board.
Moving forward, Bank Indonesia is committed to maintaining coordination and synergy in the development of the sharia economy and finance with various stakeholders, including the National Islamic Economy and Finance Committee (KNEKS) and related institutions, both domestically and internationally. This award also strengthens optimism to achieve Indonesia's vision of becoming a global hub of the sharia economy.
