Bank Indonesia Initiates Digital Talent Development to Improve Financial Literacy

Press Releases

No. 27/182/DKom

Inclusive finance is not merely a response to technological development and digital disruption, yet also the manifestation of commitments to equitable development, including gender equality. Similarly, accelerating digital financial literacy also requires an inclusive approach. To that end, women, MSMEs, students, low-income populations, migrant workers and communities in disadvantaged regions are participating actively in the utilisation of digital financial technology. Now is the time for us to work together to create digital talent towards the realisation of an equitable digital economic ecosystem. That was the key takeaway of the discussions, entitled 'Digital Talent Development Strategy to Accelerate Digital Financial Literacy,' held in the Jakarta International Convention Centre (JICC), today (09/08/25), as part of the Karya Kreatif Indonesia (KKI) 2025 expo.

The Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), Arifah Fauzi, stressed that within digital financial transformation, women are not merely beneficiaries but must also participate as agents of change. HR development, therefore, remains a top priority. “The KKI 2025 forum is not only a response to technological development and digital disruption, yet also the tangible manifestation of joint commitments to create equitable digital financial literacy, especially for women in Indonesia," explained Minister Arifah.

Senior Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, Destry Damayanti, took the opportunity to remind the audience that although access to digital finance is growing rapidly, improving financial literacy remains a key challenge. The National Financial Literacy and Inclusion Survey (SNLIK) conducted by the Indonesia Financial Services Authority (OJK) in 2024 recorded financial literacy in Indonesia at 66.46%, while an OECD survey in 2023 gave Indonesia a score of 57, below the global average of 60.3. In response to the challenge of increasing digital financial literacy, the role of digital talent who are technology savvy and digital savvy has become critical. In addition to being technologically and digitally savvy, digital talent must also be impact driven. Commitment and consistency, innovation and synergy are key, therefore, to achieving this.

Senior Deputy Governor Destry emphasised that, moving forward, financial literacy must be strengthened through relevant and humanistic education based on a personal, innovative and dynamic approach. “Bank Indonesia will also strengthen financial literacy and inclusion nationally through policy synergy, educational programs and the use of digital technology. Striving to increase financial inclusion, Bank Indonesia prioritises a collaborative approach with the government, industry, academia and local communities." Deputy Destry also urged all parties to join hands to build a nation that is financially resilient, digitally inclusive and prosperous overall.

Seeking to accelerate improvements in financial literacy, Bank Indonesia published the Digital Financial Literacy Competency Mapping Review as a reference when providing digital financial education in Indonesia. As a member of the National Council for Financial Inclusion of the Republic of Indonesia (DNKI), Bank Indonesia implements various initiatives to strengthen financial literacy, targeting priority communities, including women, MSMEs, low-income populations, students, migrant workers and communities in frontier, outermost and disadvantaged regions.

These activities enlivened the third day of KKI 2025. Through the MSME exhibition, talk shows and business matching, KKI is a platform to expand market access and accelerate the digitalisation of financial services. Such activities not only showcase creative products but also educate businesses and the public on the intelligent use of digital financial services. The dominant involvement of MSMEs led by women serves as a catalyst for socio-economic inclusion in harmony with the objectives of the National Financial Literacy and Inclusion Strategy.
