Developing
the economic independence of pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) plays a crucial
role in building a solid national economic base. Three prerequisites have been
identified for the advancement of financial and economic businesses within the
pesantren environment based on a modern approach to economic and business
management. First, tenacity and durability. Second, strengthening business
networks/relationships. Third, strengthening knowledge and economic empowerment
through the Halal Value Chain Ecosystem. That was the key takeaway delivered by
BI Governor, Perry Warjiyo, at the launch of the Halal Value Chain Ecosystem
Development Program today (05/02) in Solo.
Developing
the economic independence of pesantren is part of the sharia economic
development strategy in Indonesia to create inclusive growth. BI has included
the role of pesantren in one of the pillars of the development blueprint for
the sharia economy and finance, namely strengthening the sharia economy through
institutional improvements, encompassing the economic independence of
pesantren.
The
economic independence program is expected to establish pesantren as key players
in the halal value chain ecosystem. In addition, synergy and linkages with
MSMEs and cooperatives will be maintained to strengthen the contribution of
pesantren in halal value chain ecosystem development.
BI
policy concerning the sharia economy and finance (EKSyar) is an integral part
of the BI policy mix and a policy response to the current national economic
recovery. Concerning EKSyar development, Bank Indonesia continuously works in
synergy with other relevant stakeholders to mature the halal value chain
through halal industry development in terms of the production inputs,
production processes and marketing. Several initiatives, collaborations and
synergy have been implemented, including pesantren with massive potential as
halal industry players moving forward.
Amid
ongoing efforts to recover the national economy, particularly in the face of the
challenges and opportunities in the new normal era, the halal value chain
development program is expected to restore enthusiasm and optimism in
Indonesia.
