Bank
Indonesia has reopened its currency exchange services for damaged and worn
rupiah, starting 12th November 2020, at head office and
representative offices throughout Indonesia.
The service is available on Thursdays between 08.00-11.30 local time. Bank Indonesia has reopened its currency
exchange services in order to ensure the availability of rupiah fit for
circulation, while maintaining COVID-19 health and containment protocols.
The
criteria for the replacement of damaged and worn rupiah banknotes and coins of
the same value are as follows:
Rupiah
Banknotes
1. A
genuine rupiah banknote physically at least 2/3 of the original size may be
exchanged for a banknote of the same value based on the following requirements:
a. An
intact rupiah banknote as a single unit with or without the complete serial
number, or
b. A
rupiah banknote that is no longer intact as a single unit with the two corresponding
serial numbers on the damaged rupiah banknote complete and the same.
2. A
rupiah banknote that is physically less than 2/3 of the original size will not
be replaced.
Rupiah
Coins
1. A
genuine rupiah coin physically at least 1/2 of the original size may be
exchanged for a coin of the same value, and
2. A
rupiah coin that is physically less than 1/2 of the original size will not be
replaced.
To
exchange damaged or worn rupiah currency at Bank Indonesia, members of the
public only need to bring the damaged currency that meets the requirements to a
Bank Indonesia office at the appropriate time.
Bank Indonesia urges all members of the public wishing to exchange
currency at a Bank Indonesia office to respect COVID-19 protocols.
