No. 28/179/DKom

Economic stability and policy certainty are important foundations for promoting investment, creating job opportunities and strengthening business growth amid global uncertainty. This was highlighted by Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, Filianingsih Hendarta, during the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting (G20 FMCBG), held on 31st August-1st September 2026 in the United States. At the meeting, efforts were discussed to strengthen global economic growth through higher productivity, investment and innovation. The Indonesian delegation was led by the Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, Filianingsih Hendarta, and Deputy Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia, Juda Agung. In addition to G20 members, the meeting was attended by representatives from the Netherlands, Poland, Singapore, Qatar, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates, as well as several international organisations.

Bank Indonesia emphasised three important aspects of monetary policy implementation amid global uncertainty. First, anchoring inflation expectations through comprehensive and forward-looking assessments. Second, ensuring that the monetary policy framework continues to adapt to greater global financial integration and rapid digitalisation. Such conditions further reinforce the importance of the policy mix through synergy between monetary policy, exchange rate stabilisation measures, macroprudential policy and payment system policy. Third, strengthening clear, consistent and credible policy communication to maintain economic expectations and enhance the effectiveness of monetary policy transmission.

The G20 views the global economy as resilient, supported by policies that maintain macroeconomic stability and promote growth. Several risks still warrant attention, particularly geopolitical tensions, uncertainty surrounding trade and energy supplies, inflationary pressures, high debt levels and financial market volatility. The G20 advocates calibrated monetary and fiscal policy synergy, structural reforms, increased investment and innovation, as well as stronger and more diversified supply chains to boost growth potential.

Investment in artificial intelligence (AI) also received attention from the G20 due to its potential to increase productivity and create new sources of growth. The utilisation of AI must be supported by stronger financial system resilience and cybersecurity. The G20 also encourages stronger cooperation in several strategic areas, including global imbalances, financial literacy, efforts to address financial fraud and scams, debt issues, as well as collaboration with the private sector to support stronger and more sustainable global growth.

The G20 Chair's Statement summarises the outcomes of discussions among G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors concerning various finance track priorities under the G20 Presidency of the United States.
