No. 28/111/DKom

Bank Indonesia alongside the Ministry of Finance, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) continue strengthening financial literacy among the younger generation amid heightened global economic dynamics replete with various challenges and rapid digital transformation. Such conditions could impact private finances indirectly, including young people. Financial literacy, therefore, is not merely about understanding financial or investment products, but also about building the ability to make smart and sustainable financial decisions. That was the key takeaway delivered by Bank Indonesia Deputy Governor, Aida S. Budiman, during her remarks at the Literasi Keuangan Indonesia Terdepan (LIKE IT) event in Yogyakarta on Friday (22/5). The event was also attended by the Minister of Finance, Chair of the OJK Board of Commissioners, Chair of the LPS Board of Commissioners, Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta and Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada.

Amid such inauspicious global dynamics, Bank Indonesia ensures that every policy instituted is directed towards strengthening stability, while continuing to support economic growth, including through stronger financial inclusion and literacy. Deputy Governor Aida emphasised that Bank Indonesia is improving financial inclusion and literacy from two directions. First, through the development of money market instruments that broaden investment options for the public and corporations. “So that investors are willing to invest in Indonesia, and the public continues to hold assets denominated in Rupiah," Deputy Governor Aida stated. Second, by encouraging digital payment system innovation, including through QRIS, which makes transactions as well as access to financial and investment products faster, more convenient, affordable and reliable. Deputy Governor Aida also took the opportunity to encourage all young people to be digitally literate, continue to flourish and achieve financial maturity. “You must be smart, prudent and profitable in choosing your investment portfolio!" Aida urged.

As part of implementing its duties and authority, while also supporting LIKE IT 2026, Bank Indonesia continues to expand digital economic and financial inclusion by strengthening the payment system ecosystem through QRIS development. As of April 2026, QRIS was benefitting 63 million users and more than 45 million merchants, most of which are MSMEs. In addition, Bank Indonesia is also encouraging the development of digital talent through various innovation programs, such as the Indonesia Digital Innovation Centre (PIDI) and Digdaya x Hackathon, to help prepare innovative and adaptive young people ready to face digital economic transformation. Bank Indonesia is also actively pursuing consumer protection efforts through the PeKA program (Peduli, Kenali, dan Adukan) to increase public awareness of various fraud and digital crime risks.

LIKE IT is a collaborative program of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia, Bank Indonesia, OJK and LPS to strengthen public financial literacy and inclusion, particularly among young people. LIKE IT in Yogyakarta, held in conjunction with the Business Talk Jogja Financial Festival 2026, is the third such event. The program also serves as the grand launch of LIKE IT 2026, entitled “Financial Survival for Young Generation". LIKE IT 2026 will be implemented in various regions across Indonesia, with the first and second events held in Palembang and Ambon in March and April 2026.

Through LIKE IT 2026, Bank Indonesia, together with the Ministry of Finance, OJK and LPS, will continue strengthening financial education and literacy synergy to support financial system stability, broaden the domestic investor base and promote inclusive, robust and sustainable national economic growth.
