JOINT PRESS RELEASE
The Ministry of Finance of Japan and Bank Indonesia signed the renewed and strengthened “Memorandum of Cooperation on Establishing a Framework for Cooperation to Promote Bilateral Transactions in Local Currencies" concerning the Japanese yen and the Indonesian rupiah, which commenced on 15 December 2025.
This framework was first implemented on August 31, 2020, based on the Memorandum of Cooperation exchanged between the Ministry of Finance of Japan and Bank Indonesia on December 5, 2019.
With this renewal, the scope of eligible transactions, previously limited to bilateral trade and direct investment, has now been expanded to include all bilateral economic transactions.
Under this agreement, the Ministry of Finance of Japan and Bank Indonesia will further strengthen the collaboration in promoting the use of local currencies for bilateral transactions to foster financial market development and enhance economic stability in both countries. The renewed framework is expected to further strengthen economic activities and enhance macroeconomic resilience between Japan and Indonesia.
