No. 23/25/DKom
In line with recent indications
concerning public use of currencies other than the Indonesian rupiah (IDR) in
the territory of the Republic of Indonesia, Bank Indonesia would like to affirm
that based on Article 23B of the 1945 Constitution, Article 1, points 1 and 2,
Article 2, paragraph (1) and Article 21, paragraph (1) of the Currency Act, the
rupiah is the only legal tender in the territory of the Republic of Indonesia
and must be used for all payment transactions within the territory of the
Republic of Indonesia.
Bank Indonesia would
like to remind members of the public to exercise an abundance of caution and refrain
from using currencies other than rupiah as a payment instrument. Bank Indonesia
emphasises that the dinar, dirham and other currencies are not accepted as
legal tender in the territory of the Republic of Indonesia. Furthermore, Bank Indonesia urges the public
and various other parties to maintain rupiah sovereignty as the currency of the
Republic of Indonesia. Bank Indonesia
remains firmly committed to promoting the national movement to love and
maintain the rupiah in conjunction with other relevant authorities and elements
of the public as a symbol of national sovereignty.
