Born in Jakarta in 1963, Destry Damayanti completed her formal education with a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Indonesia and a Master of Science in the Field of Regional Science from Cornell University, New York, USA.

Destry Damayanti began her career as Senior Economic Adviser to the British Ambassador to Indonesia from 2000-2003, before serving as a researcher and lecturer at the Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia, from 2005-2006, and Chief Economist at Mandiri Sekuritas from 2005-2011. Her career continued as Chief Economist at Bank Mandiri from 2011-2015, Chair of the Economic Task Force at the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises from 2014-2015.

From 2015-2019, Destry Damayanti served as a Member of the Board of Commissioners of the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) prior to her appointment as Senior Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia from 2019-2026. Since 25th July 2026, Destry Damayanti has served as Acting Governor of Bank Indonesia.

In accordance with Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia No. 92/P of 2026, dated 1st September 2026, Destry Damayanti was officially appointed Governor of Bank Indonesia for the 2026-2031 period and took the oath of office on 2nd September 2026.
