Karya Kreatif Indonesia (KKI) 2025: Bank Indonesia Strengthening MSMEs as Drivers of the Sustainable Economy

Press Releases

No. 27/178/DKom

Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are an important pillar of supporting the economy towards an advanced Indonesia. There are 65 million MSMEs in Indonesia supporting the economy, resilient against crises and dominated by women. “Efforts to strengthen the role of MSMEs as drivers of the national economy, therefore, must be maintained," stated the Governor of Bank Indonesia, Perry Warjiyo, at the Karya Kreatif Indonesia (KKI) 2025 event held in the Jakarta International Convention Centre (JICC) on 7th August 2025. KKI is a concrete measure to level up MSMEs through innovation, digitalisation and cross-sector synergy. Entitled “Innovation and Synergy: Keys to Strengthening MSMEs as Drivers of the Sustainable Economy", the exhibition features various integrated programs and activities, including showcasing MSMEs under the mentorship of Bank Indonesia, business matching activities for exports and financing, seminars, talk shows, as well as digital transformation and the green transition.

Governor Perry pledged Bank Indonesia's commitment to end-to-end MSME development through three main pillars, namely strengthening competitiveness, increasing access to finance, as well as financial literacy and inclusion. Strengthening competitiveness focuses on key economic sectors, namely local textiles, crafts, coffee and cuisine. Access to finance is being increased through a Digital Business Matching platform that brings together curated MSMEs and financing institutions efficiently. Meanwhile, financial literacy is being strengthened through educational modules and training throughout Indonesia. Governor Perry also expressed his appreciation to government ministries/agencies and members of parliament for working in synergy towards creative MSME development in Indonesia. “Through synergy, we can develop MSMEs and create future leaders."

In the first quarter of 2025, Bank Indonesia mentored 2,537 MSMEs, dominated by micro enterprises operating in the manufacturing industry as well as the agricultural, livestock and fishing sector. MSMEs under the mentorship of Bank Indonesia performed impressively, increasing turnover by an average of 13.3% (yoy). A total of 431 MSMEs increased export turnover by 59.7% (yoy) and 1,655 MSMEs transacting through digital channels grew their turnover by 29.9% (yoy). In terms of financing MSMEs under BI mentorship, growth was recorded at 16.8% (yoy).

As many as 362 curated MSMEs under the mentorship of Bank Indonesia participated in the KKI expo at the JICC alongside eight government ministries/agencies. Meanwhile, more than 1,100 MSMEs also participated virtually through the www.karyakreatifindonesia.co.id digital platform. Products include local fabrics and textiles, handicrafts, coffee and snacks as well as sustainable products. This year, East Nusa Tenggara is the main theme of KKI 2025, adopting the local philosophy of #KalalaMareda, meaning 'creativity in togetherness'.

KKI 2025 is targeting a significant uptick in impact and participation, particularly in terms of export business matching, MSME financing and wider community engagement. Bank Indonesia continues strengthening the digital transformation of MSMEs through the Quick Response Code Indonesia Standard (QRIS), which has been adopted by 57 million users and 39.3 million merchants, dominated by MSMEs. Digitalisation has also been accelerated through collaboration with Shopee and PaDi MSME, alongside the adoption of point-of-sale (POS) technology as well as artificial intelligence to expand the reach of online promotional efforts.

The KKI expo this year is also advocating support for the green transition and inclusivity. KKI features a special Green Island zone showcasing products based on the circular economy, such as eco-fashion, eco-furniture and waste processing by the black soldier fly. The expo is also strengthening public education through the use of a carbon footprint calculator. Nurturing MSME regeneration and inclusivity, KKI also features various ready-to-wear apparel items produced in collaboration with young regional designers, complemented by the Langgam Dua Hati fashion show for people with disabilities.

KKI 2025 is running for four days from 7-10th August 2025, showcasing various important agendas, including seminars on green finance, disseminating a review of green jobs, talk shows on tourism and MSME corporatisation, a book launch of MSME History in Indonesia, as well as collaborative arts performances by Cerita Tanpa Batas.
