The RMBLA was initiated by BIS as an International Organization of the Central Bank and has been developed to provide liquidity to participating central banks from the Asia-Pacific region through a new reserve pooling scheme. Each participating central bank will contribute a minimum of RMB 15 billion or US dollar equivalent, in RMB or US dollar, placed with the BIS, creating a reserve pool.
The RMBLA agreement was signed by Governor of BI Perry Warjiyo, General Manager of BIS Agustin Carstens, Governor of Central Bank of Chile Rosanna Costa, Governor of BNM Tan Sri Nor Shamsiah Mohd. Yunus, Chief Executive of HKMA Eddie Yue, Managing Director of MAS Ravi Menon, Governor of PBC Yi Gang during series of BIS Annual Meetings in Basel, Swiss.
“The RMBLA will become one of liquidity supports that can be utilized during future periods of market volatility", stated by Governor of BI Perry Warjiyo. It also deepens financial cooperation between Bank Indonesia and the BIS, which may contribute to regional financial stability.
