Bank Indonesia has
strengthened the reference Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (JISDOR) in order
to enhance domestic foreign exchange market credibility and support exchange rate
stability in Indonesia. Implementation
will become effective on 5th April 2021. The decision aims to accelerate financial
market deepening based on a recent directive agreed at the monthly Bank Indonesia
Board of Governors meeting (RDG) in January 2021.
Strengthened from two
aspects, JISDOR represents the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar for
interbank transactions in the foreign exchange market, including transactions
with overseas banks. First, the data collection
window has been extended from 08:00-09:45 WIB previously to 08:00-16:00 WIB to
ensure JISDOR reflects spot transactions occurring throughout the day. Second, JISDOR will now be announced at 16:15
WIB rather than 10:00 WIB previously.
During the current period of adjusted operational hours for the domestic
foreign exchange market in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic, the JISDOR
calculation period is from 09:00-15:00 WIB, with JISDOR published at 15:15 WIB.
Bank Indonesia has
strengthened JISDOR as part of its efforts to realise the money market
development vision in line with best practices.
Strengthening was required in order to develop a credible pricing
reference in line with money market development. In addition, JISDOR strengthening is consistent
with the benchmark reform initiative currently underway in global financial
markets, namely to establish reference rates that represent daily exchange
rates supported by best practice methodologies.
To that end, Bank Indonesia will continue to coordinate with various
stakeholders, JISDOR users in particular, such as market players and the
corporate sector, to ensure effective and orderly implementation.
