Bank Indonesia and Banque de France Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation to Promote Stability and Sustainable Growth

Government Press Release

No.27/120/DKom

JOINT PRESS RELEASE

Bank Indonesia (BI) and Banque de France (BdF) have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of central banking. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed by the Governor of BI, Mr. Perry Warjiyo, and the Governor of BdF, François Villeroy de Galhau, came into effect on 15 May 2025. This agreement serves as a concrete testament to the shared commitment of both central banks to support Indonesia and France economies. It also forms an integral part of the bilateral meeting between the President of the Republic of Indonesia, H.E. Prabowo Subianto, and the President of France, H.E. Emmanuel Macron, on 28 May 2025.

Governor Perry Warjiyo highlighted the MoU as a significant milestone in advancing the long-standing relationship between BI and BdF, and more than a symbolic commitment. It is a testament to the enduring spirit of strengthening institutional ties and deepening bilateral cooperations between two central banks. This moment also reflects mutual contributions for addressing sustainable finance and climate-related financial risks. Governor François Villeroy de Galhau likewise affirmed the MoU marks an important milestone in cooperation between Indonesia and France, underscoring the vital strategic roles both institutions play in maintaining monetary, financial stability, and sustainable finance.

The scope of cooperation also covers digital innovation in payment systems, sustainable finance, and climate-related financial risks, as well as regulatory and supervisory frameworks, particularly in the context of Anti-Money Laundering, Combating the Financing of Terrorism, and Countering the Financing of the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction (AML/CFT/CPF). This cooperation will be implemented through various initiatives such as policy dialogues on strategic issues, knowledge-sharing and joint studies or research, capacity-building programs, and the exchange of data and information.

The MoU reflects a mutual commitment to foster a more structured and strategic collaboration between the two central banks across key areas of central banking. These include monetary policy, macroprudential policy and financial stability, as well as payment and settlement systems. Both BI and BdF reaffirm their commitment to promoting financial stability, economic strength, and sustainable growth at both national and global levels.
