The Governor of Bank Indonesia, Perry Warjiyo, has been recognised by Global Markets Media as Governor of the Year 2019 for the Asia-Pacific region. The award was presented to the BI Governor for his achievements in terms of maintaining economic stability in Indonesia despite economic and political shocks and throughout the digital transformation undertaken by Bank Indonesia. The award ceremony was held in Washington DC, United States, on Saturday, 19th October 2019 during a series of activities to mark the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings.

Global Markets recognised the BI Governor for outstanding leadership through digital transformation and the development of various innovations in the digital era, including support for FinTech development and the introduction of the Quick Response Indonesian Standard (QRIS) to boost transaction efficiency and accelerate financial inclusion, culminating in solid economic growth. The BI Governor was also recognised for sound decision-making to stimulate economic growth and mitigate the deleterious impact of the ongoing trade war between the United States and China, while also providing forward guidance to support economic growth momentum in line with government efforts.

Global Markets is an online newspaper and part of the Euromoney Institutional Investor as well as an active participant at the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Annual Meeting and Asian Development Bank and Inter-American Development Bank Annual Meeting. The company hosts the Global Markets Awards annually, presented to policymakers, Ministers of Finance and Central Bank Governors in particular. The awards are region-based, including the Asia-Pacific region. Last year (2018), the recipient of the award was the Managing Director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), Ravi Menon.
