The latest Consumer Survey conducted by Bank Indonesia revealed that consumer confidence continued to improve in August 2022 a level of 86.9 from 86.2 in July 2020 despite remaining in the pessimistic zone with a reading below 100. Confidence grew amongst consumers spending Rp2-4 million per month as well as respondents aged 20-50. Regionally, consumer confidence increased in eight of the cities surveyed, led by Surabaya, Manado and Denpasar.

Consumers were more optimistic in August 2020 as consumer perception of current economic conditions improved, namely income, job availability, and conditions for purchasing durable goods. Meanwhile, consumer expectations of economic conditions in the next six months is quite optimistic despite retreated compared with conditions one month earlier, held back by expectations concerning income, job availability and business performance moving forward.
