The latest Consumer Survey conducted by Bank Indonesia in August 2019 confirmed that consumer confidence has been maintained, as reflected by a Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) in the optimistic zone (above 100) at a level of 123.1, notwithstanding a slight decline from 124.8 the month earlier.

Consumers have remained upbeat based on their perception of current economic dynamics. Despite retreating compared with conditions in the previous period, consumers were more optimistic regarding job availability and conditions for buying durable goods. Furthermore, consumer expectations concerning future economic dynamics remained in optimistic territory, despite moderating in terms of income and business activity in the upcoming 6 months.

Consumers predicted milder inflationary pressures in the next 6 months (February 2020), supported by adequate availability of commodities and the smooth distribution of goods. Such developments were corroborated by a decrease in the 6-month Price Expectations Index (PEI) from 174.9 last month to 170.0 in the reporting period.
