Close synergy and coordination amongst the various stakeholders are key to strengthening economic resilience and building faster economic growth momentum. To that end, the leadership of the Bank Indonesia Representative Office in Balikpapan is expected to constantly strengthen synergy and coordination with the local government, business community and academia in the execution of duties. That was the key message delivered by Deputy Governor Erwin Rijanto at the ceremony to induct a new leader today (08/02) at the Bank Indonesia Representative Office in Balikpapan. Bimo Epyanto was installed as the new Head of the Bank Indonesia Representative Office in Balikpapan, replacing Suharman Tabrani who was appointed Head of the Bank Indonesia Representative Office in Southeast Sulawesi.

Replacing the leadership at Bank Indonesia is a continuous process to maintain high performance and motivation in the organisation, thereby supporting Bank Indonesia’s function, duties and responsibilities in terms of maintaining monetary, macroprudential and payment system stability as well as national and regional economic development. Bank Indonesia continues to develop in order to organise and strengthen the role of representative offices in harmony with the regional economic developments, challenges and potentials, including the central bank’s role as strategic advisor to the government in order to overcome regional economic issues. Deputy Governor Erwin Rijanto also took the opportunity to urge all stakeholders in Balikpapan to strengthen cooperation and foster policy synergy in order to create public prosperity.

Deputy Governor Erwin Rijanto also stated that national development is a reflection of regional development. Economic growth in Balikpapan in 2018 is expected to outpace that of 2017 at 3.78% (yoy), driven by the oil and gas industry after completion of the maintenance period in 2017 as well as the construction sector. By sector, the three main contributors to GDP in Balikpapan are: (i) the oil and gas industry; (ii) transportation; and (iii) construction.

The BI Deputy Governor subsequently took the opportunity to extend the Bank Indonesia Social Program (PSBI) in the form of a water well for the Islamic boarding school, primary school and the local community in Karang Joang. In addition, assistance was provided to Al Muttaqien Pesantren in the form of a bench drill to increase productivity and the role of the pesantren economy in Balikpapan.
