Bank Indonesia has received the Best Macroeconomic Regulator in Asia-Pacific 2020 Award from The Asian Bankers. The award recognises Bank Indonesia’s success in terms of maintaining macroeconomic stability in Indonesia despite ubiquitous uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The award was presented virtually on Thursday, 15th October 2020 at the Leadership Achievement Awards 2020.

The Asian Bankers feel that Bank Indonesia has shown distinction in terms of managing macroeconomic performance based on the following considerations: i) solid macroeconomic performance in 2019, as indicated by robust economic growth as well as low and stable inflation maintained within the target corridor for the past five consecutive years; ii) a stronger economic outlook for 2021, supported by global economic improvements and the positive impact of monetary and fiscal stimuli; iii) national policy synergy with the Government and Financial System Stability Committee to maintain stability and support economic recovery; iv) policy implementation through an accommodative policy mix to support national economic recovery; and v) health protocol implementation to prevent COVID-19 transmission by Bank Indonesia to ensure the continuity of BI tasks and public services.

Receiving the award, Bank Indonesia Deputy Governor, Dody Budi Waluyo, stated that the award was a form of international recognition for maintained economic performance in Indonesia as well as strong policy synergy amongst the relevant authorities to maintain stability and recover the national economy. Furthermore, the award will boost confidence in the joint policy measures taken to recover the post-pandemic economy, coupled with a promising national economic outlook.
