Bank Indonesia has launched the authorised biography, Agus Martowardojo: Pembawa Perubahan, today (02/09) in Jakarta. The biography was written based on the insightful transcripts, thoughts, inspiration and leadership values of current and erstwhile Governors and members of the Board of Governors of Bank Indonesia.

In his speech, BI Governor Perry Warjiyo outlined three key takeaways from the book launch. First, the theme of the biography is particularly relevant as Agus Martowardojo has been considered a prominent change instigator during his tenure at various institutions in Indonesia, including Bank Indonesia, through his dedication to institutional transformation. Second, the biography elucidates the end-to-end reforms undertaken by Agus Martowardojo, including policy reform. This manifested, amongst others, in Agus Martwardojo’s instrumental role in the formulation and promulgation of the Currency Act and OJK Act, facilitating the transfer of the supervision function from Bank Indonesia to the Indonesian Financial Services Authority (OJK). Third, the material is discussed comprehensively, not only in terms of work experience, yet also as a personal biography together with Agus Martwardojo’s future expectations for Indonesia.

The authorised biography, Agus Martwardojo: Pembawa Perubahan, recounts the illuminating story of Agus Martwardojo’s illustrious career spanning three decades from the private sector to bureaucrat. The biography details Agus Martwardojo’s experiences in the banking industry, including the challenges and achievements of managing various banks under his leadership. Agus Martwardojo’s career in the banking sector began at Bank Niaga where he showed outstanding dedication and excellent performance developing Bank Mandiri through a merger of four government banks, leading the merger of five private banks into Bank Permata and spearheading the transformation of Bank Mandiri. Thereafter, during his tenure as Minister of Finance, Agus Martwardojo implemented various strategic policies concerning state financial management, while leading the bureaucratic transformation of the Ministry of Finance. Equally as enlightening was his experience as Governor of Bank Indonesia through four key elements, namely reorganisation, governance, HR management and operational efficiency. Furthermore, integrity, professionalism and excellence embody his 30-year career, setting an unparalleled example and serving as inspiration in the development of a leadership spirit in Indonesia towards the creation of quality human resources for the betterment of Indonesia.
