Bank Indonesia Hosts Economic Leadership Training for Students

Press Releases

No: 27/278/DKom

Bank Indonesia is providing economic leadership training by inviting students to discuss current economic issues. The training simulates policymaking as well as creating effective public communications. Held in Jakarta, the training was attended by 157 recipients of Bank Indonesia scholarships, known as the New Generation of Indonesia (GenBI), from universities in the Jabodetabek region, as part of the capacity building program to complement the theoretical understanding already gained (20/11/25).

Executive Director of the BI Communication Department, Ramdan Denny Prakoso, expressed his appreciation for the students' active participation and strong commitment in attending the entire series of training sessions. “The last two days have provided a wealth of knowledge and experience from the speakers and resource persons. The participants have engaged in all activities with energy and enthusiasm through to the closing session this evening," said Ramdan.

In addition to the aforementioned training series, the students will also tour the Bank Indonesia Museum on 22nd November 2025 to enrich their understanding of the foundations of the national economy through the critical role played by Bank Indonesia from the colonial era to the modern age. Bank Indonesia expects the experience to afford the students a more comprehensive historical perspective, ultimately strengthening a sense of nationalism among the younger generation.

Students from the University of Indonesia, IPB University, Syarief Hidayatullah State Islamic University, Atma Jaya University and SEBI Islamic Institute attended the program with enthusiasm, experiencing the positive benefits not only in terms of educational support but also in developing their character as potential future leaders.

Demos Yovano M. K., an International Relations student at the University of Indonesia and recipient of the Best Script Writer Award, explained how the two days had provided him a plethora of new learning opportunities. “I learned a lot, from economics to deep explanations concerning Bank Indonesia's function as the Central Bank in communicating policies to the public effectively. On the second day, we learned how to create content that was not only visually appealing but also powerful in terms of the message and meaning. The discussion on utilising media to deliver information to the public was particularly useful because we rarely experience such topics in our other learning activities but studied it in depth during the GenBI capacity building sessions," said Demos.

The Capacity Building program is an integral part of Bank Indonesia's firm commitment to competency development for Indonesia's younger generation. Since 2011, more than 89,305 students have received a BI scholarship. In 2025, 12,170 scholarship recipients were active students at 207 universities as well as a further 810 students at vocational schools throughout Indonesia. Through the GenBI community, students are encouraged to develop integrity, self-capacity and social awareness, and to make a positive contribution to their surrounding environment, in line with the GenBI vision of creating a younger generation competent in various scientific pursuits and instigating positive change as an inspiration for the nation and state.
